Happy Holidays - 11-21-08

The holidays are quickly upon us this time of year. Our parent tours for new incoming Revere students and families are continuing on a monthly basis. We had “Preview Night” on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:00 P.M. in the auditorium. On Thursday, November 20 at 9:00 P.M. is our monthly parent tour of Revere. Thanksgiving is next week and students, staff, and parents are planning their 4-day weekend with family and friends. The Paul Revere family wishes everyone a healthy, happy, safe Thanksgiving!

We have many exciting events on the calendar next month. Our music department has planned concerts for December 10 and 11 that will highlight the talents and exceptional abilities of our students. On Wednesday, December 17 all 8th graders will participate in the new “Explore” test, a preliminary version of the ACT used for college entrance. This test will not count on students’ grades at Revere, but will offer them the excellent opportunity to practice for college entrance exams in the future. The test is offered free to all L.A.U.S.D. 8th grade students. Results will be shared at a later date. I wish everyone “good luck” on the test. Friday, December 19 is a minimum day, dismissal at 12:23 P.M.

All my best wishes for a wonderful holiday season to everyone in the Revere Community!

November 10 - 14

I hope all parents received the announcement for the PRIDE/PTSA meeting on Wednesday, November 12 at 8:00 A.M. in the Town Hall. Mr. Hastings will present the new discipline policy, and represent me at the meeting. Principals from our feeder elementary schools will be on campus that afternoon observing some of our Math classes. We are proud to “show-off” our excellent students, teachers, and staff to our neighboring schools. In addition, that Wednesday night, at 7:00 P.M., I will be at Palisades Elementary School with a host of Revere teachers and students, to discuss the many social attributes and academic programs Paul Revere Middle School can offer their children. I look forward to an excellent presentation by members of the Revere student body and staff.

A Very Busy Week, 11-3 to 11-7

What a busy week at Paul Revere Middle School. On Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, while people from the community were arriving at our campus to vote the “lights went out!” literally. The entire neighborhood lost electricity. Even the traffic lights were out! Under these extreme circumstances our community, parents, students, teachers, and staff were terrific! Parents were patient and careful dropping off their children for school. Students went directly to their classes and got down to work. Teachers presented lessons without interruption, totally in a darkened room. Staff and administration directed traffic on the busy street without incident. That’s what I call “TEAMWORK!” Congratulations to all Revere Patriots!
